Samir Handanovic made an important life decision in the summer: he retired from football, but stayed in football. In another role. He continues his association with Inter Milan, where he is a scout. The legendary Ljubljana resident has never spoken publicly about why he put his gloves in the corner, but this week he finally spoke out. And what made the social networks of your first club
Slovan
.
“I feel great. I had a long holiday, and I have more free time. I also use it to come to Ljubljana several times and go sightseeing,” said Samir Handanović, who watched last weekend’s third league match between Slovan and Svoboda live.

The long-serving goalkeeper of the Milan giants, who also made a big mark at Udinese, continued. In the end, I had some offers, but I put myself first, and above all my children and my family. That’s why I stayed in Milan, even though I had finished my sporting career. My goals… My future is also linked to football. Basically, I just changed roles. Now I’m going to do other things. I’m starting as an Inter scout, and in a year, two, three years I’d like to be a coach. I want to work with young people, that’s my goal. Because I want to pass something on to them and give back what football has given me. It has given me a lot. That’s the basic goal, and then… One day I want to be a professional coach in a big club.”
Handanovic: “Every sacrifice is worth it”
Samir Handanovic, who also defended the goal for many years
Slovenia
and played at the 2010 World Cup, admitted that he is more than satisfied with what he has achieved in his career.
“In fact, I have lived my dream. Every footballer’s dream. I am proud of that, but let others judge me. I’m proud to have grown as a footballer and as a person. Bigger level, bigger things, harder things. I also consider it an honour to have captained Inter. These are not small things, the responsibility is big. You learn a lot, not only on the pitch, but also what football entails. I would like to impress upon young people that every sacrifice is worth it. When you get to a certain level, all the effort is worth it. It is a privilege to be a football player at a big level,” added 39-year-old Samir Handanovic.
