Last weekend, the football world was shocked by the tragic death of a Ghanaian footballer. Raphael Dwamena suddenly collapsed in the middle of an Albanian Championship match and, although he was immediately attended to, lost his life. “Dear Raphi. I am trying to write something, but it is difficult. I will remember you as a positive person who always laughed and loved football. You left us where you loved to be… Rest in peace,” wrote Djengis Čavušević on Instagram, who met Dwamena when they were both playing in Switzerland for
Zurich
.
Raphael Dwamena and Djengis Čavušević were teammates in 2017, after which the former Slovenian international moved to Australia, where he signed for Adelaide United. As a member of Zurich, Raphael Dwamena should have transferred to the Premier League in August 2017, but his deal with Brighton fell through because he failed a medical due to a heart problem.
Although doctors warned him that playing football could be fatal, Raphael Dwamena insisted on kicking the ball and ended up paying the ultimate price.
